About The Position

The Space Management Specialist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) plays a crucial role in supporting the Facilities and Operations Directorate by managing space utilization across the laboratory. This position involves liaising with various stakeholders to ensure effective space management, maintaining data for approximately 4 million square feet of space, and developing tactical plans to address immediate and long-term space needs. The specialist will also coordinate moves and renovation projects, ensuring that customer requirements are met efficiently.

Requirements

  • BS degree in project management, facilities management, strategic planning, or other relevant degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or a combination of education and progressive relative experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications such as Project Management Professional, Lean Six Sigma, Facilities Management, etc.
  • Innovative and detail-oriented with experience in highly visible projects.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data for reports and recommendations to management.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, capable of delivering presentations to large audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Directorate Space Authorities and Division Space Representatives to understand specific space needs and goals.
  • Coordinate with Strategic Planning staff to align near-term space planning with site-wide strategic objectives.
  • Identify creative solutions and opportunities to resolve space management needs.
  • Attend Space Management Council meetings to provide updates on strategic space planning activities and seek feedback.
  • Maintain data within ORNL's space management application to ensure accurate space allocation and utilization data.
  • Represent customers' technical interests in space planning, documenting requirements for moves and renovation projects.
  • Coordinate moves of personnel, materials, equipment, and the purchase and installation of furniture.
