About The Position

Our organization is seeking a visionary and highly experienced Technical Director to lead the technical design, development, and integration of a complex, large-scale space program. The Technical Director will be the principal technical authority, responsible for the end-to-end architectural integrity, from the mission concept and software system-level design down to the software component interfaces. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of space systems, satellite technologies, ground segment operations, and data processing, as well as a strong background in large-scale software system integration.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience with software and solutions engineering for the DoD or IC
  • 10+ years of experience in a systems engineering lead role on a development program
  • 5+ years of experience with systems engineering, requirements decomposition, and the application of Agile practices, principles, and patterns
  • Knowledge of enterprise-scale architecture and the application to Cloud platform transformation
  • Ability to conduct technology assessments and market analysis
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with executive-level briefing materials and delivery
  • Ability to lead technical teams, manage complex interfaces, and resolve technical challenges in a fast-paced environment
  • TS/SCI clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a technology field
  • Agile Scrum Master or SAFe certification

  • Experience with Astrodynamics modeling and Space Domain Awareness
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM)
  • Experience with digital engineering and Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Master's degree

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural design and technical roadmap for a space program, ensuring all software components work together seamlessly to meet mission requirements.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface between program management, government stakeholders, and a diverse team of engineers, contractors, and partners.
  • Define system requirements and decompose them into actionable, verifiable specifications for various software subsystems.
  • Conduct trade studies and architectural analyses to evaluate design alternatives and make critical decisions that balance performance, cost, and risk.
  • Ensure the program's technical integrity, including managing interfaces, resolving technical conflicts, and overseeing verification and validation efforts across the system lifecycle.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in space systems, satellite operations, and data analytics to innovate and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Mentor and guide a team of senior engineers and architects, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Represent the program's technical vision in briefings and reviews with senior leadership and external partners.
