About The Position

Community Partner Description: South Lorain Public Library is part of the Lorain Library System. There is a Food Literacy program located at this location and an urban farm on the premises. The focus of this urban farm is to provide quality local produce to the community. Position Title: South Lorain Library Food Justice Intern Location: South Lorain Library 2121 Homewood Dr. Lorain, Ohio 44055 Duration: Starting in April 2026 through August 2026 Schedule: Part time 10-15 hours/week – not to exceed 230 hours total Compensation: $15/hour - position is grant-funded through Lorain County Community College. Overview: We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our local library urban farm. This internship offers a unique opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in sustainable farming practices, and supporting food justice on the farm.

Requirements

  • Passionate about food justice, healthy foods, community-building, and civic agriculture.
  • Physical ability to engage in farm-related tasks, including lifting, bending, and prolonged outdoor work.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
  • Willingness to adapt and take on new challenges in a dynamic farm environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of agriculture, though not required, is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Farm and Crop Maintenance: Helping the farm manager with tasks such as: planting, cultivation, watering, weeding, and harvest. Perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure a well-functioning farm environment.
  • Operations assistance: Aid in maintaining volunteer, intern, staff, and maintenance scheduling and record keeping. Participate in data collection activities, such as monitoring crop growth, recording weather conditions, maintaining accurate records of farm activities, and documenting the food justice impact of the local community.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with farm team manager and staff to ensure efficient and effective operations. Collaborate on various tasks and projects as needed.
