The position is a full-time, regular civil service job at the University of Minnesota, Duluth (UMD) within the Dining Services department. The role involves ensuring a high-quality dining experience for the campus community, coordinating team staffing, overseeing inventory, training team members, and innovating dining processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining food quality, sanitation, and service standards, as well as promoting a safe work environment. This essential employee role requires reporting to work during reduced operations, such as inclement weather. The position will remain open until filled.

  • Ensure a high-quality dining experience for the campus community by upholding standards in food quality, sanitation, and service.
  • Coordinate daily team staffing for high-volume, complex operational processes.
  • Oversee inventory levels and manage product orders with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Train and mentor team to meet objectives, fostering skill development to strengthen individual performance and team cohesion.
  • Innovate and refine recipes, processes, and efficiencies to elevate guest experience.
  • Oversee guest experience and uphold standards through coaching and training.
  • Observe and report guest trends to improve team performance.
  • Implement performance management practices and administer corrective actions as needed to maintain accountability and support team excellence.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in verbal and written communication to effectively engage with team and management at all levels.
  • Prioritize and actively promote a safe work environment by upholding both physical and mental well-being standards.
  • BA/BS plus at least four years of experience or combination of related education and experience to equal at least eight years.
  • 3 years in supervisory or management role related to food service.
  • 2 years scratch cooking experience.
  • 2 years high volume batch cooking experience.
  • Proficient in food management systems (ie: recipe and inventory management software).
  • Proficient in Google Suite (docs, sheets, etc.).
