About The Position

Join the Max Hospitality Team! Max Catering & Events, based in Springfield, MA and serving the greater Massachusetts area at their sister location Max’s Tavern in the Basketball Hall of Fame, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Sous Chef to join our culinary team. If you are passionate about fine dining, committed to excellence, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen, we want to meet you! Open availability is required. This role will also spend time at off-site locations as well as events in the Hartford, CT area as needed. The Sous Chef will work alongside the Executive Chef to maintain the high standards of food quality and guest satisfaction that our clients expect. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a passion for culinary excellence, and a commitment to team development.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of progressively responsible culinary experience in a fine-dining kitchen
  • Experience with menu planning, inventory management, and ordering
  • Strong background in working with seasonal ingredients and local farmers
  • Leadership experience with the ability to manage and mentor a team
  • Formal culinary training is preferred
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards
  • Must have a keen eye for food quality and presentation

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Executive Chef in overseeing kitchen operations and day-to-day culinary activities
  • Supervise and train kitchen staff, ensuring consistency and quality in food preparation and presentation
  • Manage inventory, place orders, and ensure the kitchen is properly stocked with necessary supplies
  • Assist in menu planning, focusing on seasonal ingredients and innovative dishes
  • Ensure food is prepared and presented according to Max Catering & Events’ high standards
  • Handle scheduling for kitchen staff to ensure adequate coverage during all shifts
  • Maintain food safety and sanitation standards in the kitchen
  • Work closely with the front-of-house team to ensure smooth and efficient service
  • Manage kitchen prep to ensure all items are ready and available for service
  • Address any issues with food quality, presentation, or guest concerns promptly and professionally
