We are looking for a Sous Chef to join our amazing team! Job Summary: The Sous Chef is responsible for assisting the Director of Culinary Services in planning, organizing, and directing kitchen operations to deliver high-quality dining experiences. The Sous Chef supervises, trains, coaches, and evaluates culinary staff, manages kitchen budgets, and ensures compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. This role actively participates in menu development, staff scheduling, inventory management, and operational improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Culinary degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years cooking experience in the hospitality or healthcare industry, with at least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Food handlers permit as required by state law and/or Company standards.
  • Proven experience managing kitchen budgets (food, supplies, labor).
  • Strong organizational, time management, and leadership skills.
  • Previous banquet and/or special event planning experience preferred.
  • Proficient with basic computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel).
  • Connect and help residents transition from home to community through thoughtful engagement at every level of interaction.
  • Exhibit strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with team members, coworkers, and residents.
  • Consistently deliver high-quality customer service and culinary experiences.
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks, priorities, and kitchen operations.
  • Delegate tasks efficiently and hold team members accountable.
  • Demonstrate strong business ethics and operational integrity.
  • Ability to work varied schedules, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Culinary degree preferred.
  • Previous banquet and/or special event planning experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high levels of customer service and create a fine dining experience.
  • Lead and supervise kitchen staff to ensure a consistently high standard of food quality, preparation, and presentation.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluations for kitchen team members.
  • Assist in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training new culinary staff.
  • Maintain a strong sense of teamwork and a positive, professional kitchen culture.
  • Develop staff work schedules to align with operational needs and budget guidelines.
  • Assist in menu planning and execution based on resident preferences, seasonal availability, and budgetary considerations.
  • Ensure all food is purchased, stored, prepared, and served according to local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment in safe, good working condition and ensure proper maintenance and repairs.
  • Manage inventory and ordering to control food, supply, and labor costs within budget.
  • Monitor kitchen expenses, food waste, and staff productivity to ensure efficient operations.
  • Plan, prepare, and execute special events, banquets, and themed meals.
  • Conduct and lead pre-meal standups with dining and culinary staff.
  • Ensure strict compliance with food safety, health, and sanitation standards.
  • Acquaint new residents with dining options, menus, and hours as applicable.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Culinary Services on operational initiatives and improvements.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
