About The Position

The Sous Chef position is responsible for overseeing kitchen staff, assisting them in their spiritual and professional growth with training opportunities that align with CRISTA’s mission and vision. Demonstrate advanced culinary skills and assist the Executive Chef Manager to provide meals with nutritional value and creative appeal to residents and guests.

  • Conducts themselves in a manner which reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).
  • Demonstrates the values of a CRISTA leader.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year experience as a Sous Chef or Lead Cook in a nutrition services department, restaurant or CCRC community.
  • Current Washington State Food Handler’s Permit.
  • Basic knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook and other pertinent computing and software applications.
  • Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all measures using fractions, decimals and whole numbers.
  • Able to read, understand and follow recipes.
  • Able to prepare menu items.
  • Knowledge of essential food cost controls.
  • Able to perform duties in a team environment.
  • Able to operate all food related equipment.
  • Read, write, communicate in and interpret English at a functional level (i.e.: read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos, write clearly and explain information to residents and staff in a clear manner).
  • Manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Able to work collaboratively with supervisor, coworkers, supervised staff and residents and their families.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in culinary arts or other formal culinary education and/or advanced training.
  • Four years in fine dining and high volume food service experience (restaurant, hotel or senior living).
  • ServSave Certificate.
  • Advanced computer skills; inventory and ordering software experience.
  • Bilingual.
  • Lead by example.
  • Results oriented.
  • Banquet experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in Interviewing, training and employee development.
  • Instill a leadership culture of Transformative Performance Management for all Media leaders and staff.
  • Establish a work environment that fosters Christian unity between leadership.
  • Lead staff with Christian values, inspiration and growth that align with CRISTA’s mission and vision, through appropriate training opportunities.
  • Support staff in professional and spiritual development by providing appropriate coaching and mentorship.
  • Assist in conducting weekly devotions for staff and lead in absence of the Executive Chef Manager.
  • Operate within budgetary guidelines.
  • Ensure staff dress to CRISTA standards.
  • Ensure safety and sanitation procedures are followed with food, cooking, serving equipment and all food storage areas.
  • Ensure Department of Health requirements, infection control and HACCP standards are followed.
  • Develop menus and new recipes and ensure high food quality that is nutritious, tasty, timely, and visually appealing.
  • Work with the Executive Chef Manager to ensure food is prepared safely with consistent portions.
  • Manage production of food programs and parties by working with the Executive Chef Manager.
  • Accommodate special diets and specific needs of residents by working with the resident dietitian.
  • Order food and supplies in absence of the Executive Chef Manager.
  • Provide leadership and guidance in absence of Executive Chef Manager.
  • Respond to residents individually and to committee requests.
  • Participate in continuing education classes.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisor, coworkers and customers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Conduct that reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).
