About The Position

The Sous Chef supports the daily culinary operations of a residential healthcare facility serving approximately 85 residents. This role assists the Executive Chef in delivering high-quality, nutritious meals that support resident health, satisfaction, and regulatory requirements. The Sous Chef plays a hands-on role in food production, menu execution, and staff support, ensuring meals are prepared safely, consistently, and with attention to resident preferences and dietary needs. This position is well suited for a culinary professional who values teamwork, structure, and meaningful service in a resident-focused environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree (A.S.) in Culinary Arts or equivalent professional culinary experience
  • Progressive culinary or kitchen leadership experience in healthcare, senior living, or institutional foodservice
  • Experience with batch cooking and smaller-scale residential operations preferred
  • Strong understanding of modified diets (e.g., texture-modified, therapeutic, allergen-sensitive meals)
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, nutrition standards, and cost controls
  • Experience working in a resident-focused or regulated environment highly desirable
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office and email
  • Willingness to participate in resident satisfaction programs and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • ServSafe certification highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Executive Chef with day-to-day culinary operations, including food production, staffing support, and workflow organization
  • Support menu planning and execution, ensuring meals meet nutritional guidelines, therapeutic diet requirements, and resident preferences
  • Participate in batch and institutional cooking for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special meals
  • Assist with managing food costs, inventory, ordering, and waste control for the account
  • Support catering or special events for resident activities, holidays, and community functions
  • Supervise and coach hourly team members, reinforcing food safety, sanitation, and service standards
  • Assist with the rollout of new culinary programs, recipes, and service initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, food safety standards, and sanitation policies
  • Contribute to resident satisfaction initiatives and quality improvement efforts
