About The Position

The Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission is seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team for a yearlong assignment. This position will play a key role in supporting daily financial operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and contributing to the Commission’s mission. Candidates who are motivated, eager to learn, and interested in contributing to the dynamic racing and gaming industries are encouraged to apply. This is a temporary position expected to last one year. 20 hours per week with a flexible schedule.

Requirements

• Minimum Qualifications: Post high school coursework or vocational education in accounting, finance, business administration or related field OR experience performing accounting functions including interpreting and analyzing financial data.
• Regular and reliable onsite attendance is required.
• NRGC employees are prohibited from gambling or placing a wager in any establishment licensed by the Commission.
• Familiarity with accounting principles and practices.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software.
• Strong analytical skills and accuracy in data entry.
• Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Review and verify financial documents for accuracy, completeness and compliance with established policies and procedures.
• Process invoices for payment, including coding and data entry
• Review and process employee reimbursements (ERD’s) and travel-related documents for payment.
• Prepare and enter journal entries to record accounting adjustments
• Process deposits, including coding and data entry
• Provide customer service to agency staff by responding to routine inquiries related to accounting processes and procedures
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall function of the finance team.
