The Sonographer performs a variety of imaging procedures using independent judgment and technical expertise.   • Completion of a formal Ultrasound program accredited by CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) required.
  • RDMS certification preferred; registry‑eligible candidates are welcome to apply.
  • Completion of the Physics portion of the registry exam preferred.
  • RDMS must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
  • State-mandated clearances (with renewals as applicable): Act 31 – Child Abuse Reporting Act 33 Act 34 Act 73 – FBI Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality ultrasound exams and procedures following established protocols.
  • Assist physicians with invasive procedures while strictly following Universal Protocol standards.
  • Communicate clearly with patients, explain procedures, and help alleviate any anxiety.
  • Ensure accurate patient identification using two identifiers.
  • Review patient history and physician orders; document appropriately in the electronic record.
  • Utilize ultrasound equipment effectively and maintain strong knowledge of instrumentation and imaging techniques.
  • Obtain optimal image documentation of anatomy in multiple planes and perform accurate measurements.
  • Ensure all studies are properly coded, tracked, archived (ISITE), and charged through the RIS system.
  • Participate in High Level Disinfection processes as required.
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure efficient, patient-focused care.
