About the position

The Sonographer II position at VCU Health System involves performing ultrasonography procedures and related techniques to produce diagnostic images for medical purposes. This role requires the Sonographer to work with patients of all ages, ensuring comfort and understanding throughout the imaging process. The position emphasizes adherence to established protocols, timely completion of imaging tasks, and effective communication with healthcare providers regarding patient care.

Responsibilities

• Perform all duties of a Sonographer I.
• Provide accurate explanations and instructions to patients and families using age-appropriate language.
• Perform ordered exams or therapy in accordance with established imaging protocols while respecting patient comfort.
• Document deviations from protocol and patient-specific issues that may impact image quality.
• Notify appropriate healthcare providers when immediate clinical response is necessary based on findings or patient condition.
• Complete all required post-processing, image display, preliminary reporting, and transfer for physician review in a timely manner.
• Demonstrate timely order closure, charge entry, and PACS QA completion.
• Routinely cover open shifts as appropriate based on competency level.
• Perform ultrasound-guided biopsies as needed.

Requirements

• Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) as a sonographer ARRT(S) or RDMS or CCI certification in medical sonography or RDCS certification in cardiac sonography or RVT certification as Vascular Technologist.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
• Successful completion of a 6-month orientation period.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in image processing.
