The position is located at 601 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, New York, and is a full-time role within the Pediatrics Cardiology department. The job involves assisting in performing a variety of technical procedures in the application of high frequency ultrasound waves to patients for diagnostic purposes, with guidance from senior Sonographers.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree and 2 years of experience in cardiac imaging or related field or successful completion of accredited cardiac echo sonographer training program required.
  • Working knowledge of cardiology, cardiovascular hemodynamics, doppler physics/instrumentation, cardiac and vascular ultrasound technologies required.

Nice To Haves

  • RVT - Registered Vascular Technologist upon hire preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with routine and specialized echocardiographic studies, including transthoracic, stress echocardiographic techniques, transesophageal and contrast exams.
  • Obtains pertinent patient medical history to optimize the exam for appropriateness.
  • Reviews old echocardiographic studies for correlation with assistance from more senior sonographer.
  • Prepares exam room and ultrasound equipment to perform cardiac ultrasound studies in accordance with universal precautions.
  • Communicates with patients in a manner that is appropriate for patient understanding.
  • Obtains vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, height, and weight.
  • Evaluates any contraindications that may limit exam completeness.
  • Uses proper patient positioning and ergonomically correct scanning techniques.
  • Works with more senior sonographer to perform necessary cardiac measurements and generate preliminary findings.
  • Maintains active registry status in adult cardiac sonography (RDCS/RCS) through continuing professional educational credits.
  • Attends echo conferences to increase clinical knowledge base.
  • Keeps lab and exam rooms in clean, working order, including cleaning ultrasound equipment.
  • Reports all equipment malfunctions and problems to lead sonographer.
  • Keeps all inventory and supplies current and stocked in each exam room.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Compensation range: $36.87 - $47.93 per hour.
  • Full-time position with scheduled weekly hours of 40.
