About The Position

Nestled in the rolling foothills of Walla Walla’s Blue Mountains, Abeja Winery and The Inn at Abeja are renowned for extraordinary wines, world-class hospitality, and breathtaking surroundings. Our beautifully restored century-old farm and 49-acre estate offer a truly special setting to share unforgettable wine experiences with our guests. We’re seeking a Sommelier to join our passionate, high-performing hospitality team during our vibrant peak season. This is a unique opportunity to represent one of Washington’s most celebrated wineries, deliver elevated wine experiences, and serve as a leader in wine education and service standards across departments. This position reports to the Hospitality Manager.

Requirements

  • Must be 21+ with weekend availability
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods
  • Reliable transportation and a clean driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Previous winery tasting room or luxury hospitality experience preferred
  • WSET Level 3+, CMS Certified Sommelier, or equivalent certification preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to train and mentor staff
  • Strong communication skills and ability to connect with guests
  • Comfortable with POS systems, transactions, and multitasking

Responsibilities

  • Lead elevated wine tastings and private experiences with confidence and professionalism
  • Share in-depth wine knowledge of Abeja wines, vineyard practices, terroir, and winemaking philosophy
  • Guide guests through comparative tastings and thoughtful food pairing discussions
  • Build meaningful relationships with guests and wine club members through warm, personalized service
  • Drive wine sales and club conversions while maintaining authentic hospitality
  • Conduct staff wine education sessions to elevate overall team knowledge and confidence
  • Train hospitality staff on wine service standards, presentation, and guest engagement
  • Partner with The Kitchen at Abeja team to provide guidance on dining etiquette, wine presentation, and hospitality best practices
  • Serve as a role model for luxury service standards
  • Process POS transactions accurately and efficiently
  • Assist with wine fulfillment, inventory management, and daily operations
  • Support seasonal winery events, including Spring Kick-Off, Spring Release, Fall Celebration, etc.
