The Sommelier at Santo is responsible for curating and managing the wine selection to enhance the upscale dining experience. This role involves creating wine lists that complement the food menu, providing recommendations to guests, and ensuring the wine cellar is well-stocked. The Sommelier will also train staff on wine offerings and organize wine tasting events, all while adhering to health and safety regulations.

  • Creating and updating wine lists in collaboration with the Chefs and Manager.
  • Making recommendations on food and wine pairings to enhance guest experience.
  • Ensuring that the wine cellar is fully stocked and organized.
  • Informing guests about the variety of wines available and their characteristics.
  • Training waitstaff on the available wines and proper service techniques.
  • Negotiating prices with wine vendors to maintain cost-effectiveness.
  • Organizing wine tasting events for guests and staff.
  • Complying with health and safety regulations related to wine storage and service.
  • Certification as a Sommelier or a Degree in Hospitality is beneficial.
  • Previous experience as a Sommelier, Wine Steward, or in a Hospitality role.
  • Extensive knowledge of wines and regions, including different types of wines.
  • Knowledge of local vineyards and wineries.
  • An understanding of the wine-making process.
  • Availability to work long hours, weekends, and travel.
