Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division has an exciting opportunity as a Solutions Technical Sales Engineer - Design. The Solutions Technical Sales Engineer - Design will review customer requests for custom generator enclosures, create concept drawings, estimate costs, work with internal partners to determine availability and provide quote support to account managers.

  • 5-10 years of engineering experience is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of mechanical packaging / generator enclosure systems and related standards.
  • Knowledge of gas / diesel generator systems, performance, and balance of plant.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar technical drawing platform.
  • Sound business acumen, strategic thinking, customer focus and excellent communication are essential.
  • Previous customer facing experience in a “projects” business.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the “face” of Cat Solutions for initial inquiries from dealers.
  • Monitor CSQ “inbox” and email for quote requests.
  • Vet opportunities and collaborate with dealer to determine the scope needed for the project.
  • Collect the project specific information to facilitate quotation.
  • Review customer technical specifications and create compliant concept design, utilizing either internal design approach or in collaboration with "solutions network" suppliers.
  • Use Cat systems to locate and retrieve Genset information needed for enclosure sizing.
  • Create concept design with appropriate scope, features, performance and provide layout drawings using AutoCAD.
  • If necessary, use the “timeline” process to determine availability.
  • Collaborate with Sales Support Consultants to estimate cost and develop a quote to the dealer.
  • If necessary, provide a detailed explanation of the quote to the dealer to ensure they understand the offer and are able to compare accurately to other enclosure options.
  • Perform a quarterly update of costing input from purchasing including replacing obsolete parts, adding new or missing parts, verifying scope of supply included in some parts etc.
  • Create quotes and manage orders in CSQ/EOMP.
  • Keep an opportunity log up to date with status notes to ensure appropriate follow up.
