About The Position

The Solution Design Engineer Manager, reporting to the Director of Industrial Engineering & Solution Design, leads and mentors a team of Solution Design Engineers while contributing as a senior individual contributor on complex initiatives. This role leads solution design proposals and serves as a subject matter expert in solution design, technology, and fulfillment processes across the organization. Working independently and cross-functionally, the Solution Design Engineer Manager ensures solutions align with customer requirements and Barrett Distribution Centers’ strategic objectives, delivering high-quality, scalable, and cost-effective solutions. This position works Monday through Friday, from 9am-5:30pm. The compensation range for this position is $145K-$160K, depending on experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field required.
  • Eight (8) to Ten (10)+ years of experience in 3PL, warehousing, supply chain, or related industries, including five (5) + years in solution design or industrial engineering, and prior experience leading or mentoring engineering teams
  • Advanced knowledge of 3PL, supply chain, transportation, and WMS systems.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar design software.
  • Able to balance competing priorities, complex situations and deal with ambiguity while being extremely deadline driven.
  • Strong emphasis on organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to provide executive presentations to internal and external customers
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work well under pressure and problem solve across a variety of business processes.

  • Master’s Degree in IE or similar strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and optimize warehouse processes, facility configurations, and material handling equipment for both standard and customer-specific operations across the organization.
  • Partner with Sales and Pricing teams to develop high-level solution designs for customer RFPs, often within aggressive timelines.
  • Lead, prioritize, and manage a team of Solution Design Engineers to execute against Engineering Department objectives and business priorities.
  • Mentor and develop direct reports across solution design, technical expertise, and professional growth; build succession plans for future Solution Design leadership.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Sales, Engineering, Operations, and other internal teams for new business opportunities.
  • Communicate solution requirements and operating concepts across BPO and Operations teams to ensure seamless and efficient new-business launches.
  • Independently lead large-scale, multi-site solution design projects and support solutions through implementation and Go-Live.
  • Design and oversee warehouse solutions across multiple facilities and regions.
  • Present solution designs, business cases, and proposals to Barrett executive leadership and external customers, serving as the subject matter expert.
  • Drive continuous improvement in solution quality, business processes, customer optimization, and account performance.
  • Leverage data and analytics to establish baseline metrics, define performance goals, and develop ROI analyses to evaluate solution viability.
  • Attract, develop, and retain high-performing, diverse talent; build future leaders through coaching, mentoring, and role modeling.
  • Establish clear goals and performance expectations for the team and provide ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Moderate travel is required to customer sites and other facilities (20% average, up to 50% at peak times)
