Job Summary & Responsibilities The SolidWorks/FEA Intern will support Onto Innovation’s product development efforts for capital equipment used in the semiconductor industry. This role offers hands-on exposure to the full product lifecycle—from early concept development through prototype builds, manufacturing release, and sustaining engineering. The intern will work closely with experienced engineers on precision mechanical designs within complex electro‑mechanical systems, gaining practical experience in analysis, testing, and cross‑functional collaboration.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong foundation in mechanical engineering fundamentals gained through coursework.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD software and the creation of part or assembly drawings (academic or internship experience acceptable).
  • Knowledge of common engineering materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Interest in precision mechanical systems, motion systems, or automated equipment.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to learn quickly in a fast‑paced development environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic understanding of tolerance analysis, GD&T, and introductory finite element analysis preferred.
  • Exposure to semiconductor equipment, wafer processing, or automated test systems is a plus but not required.
