About The Position

The Solid Waste Service Worker position involves performing various unskilled or semi-skilled tasks to support the collection and disposal of solid waste in the City of El Paso. Under immediate supervision, the worker will engage in manual labor, operate machinery, and assist in maintaining cleanliness and efficiency in waste management operations.

Requirements

• One (1) year of general work experience.
• Possession of a Texas Class 'C' Driver's License or Commercial Driver's License may be required.

Responsibilities

• Perform general or specific semi-skilled or unskilled manual labor tasks.
• Collect solid waste materials for disposal, reuse, and recycling.
• Manage waste containers and assist in property clean-up.
• Ride on the back of a garbage or recycling collection truck to collect waste materials on a designated route.
• Lift garbage or recycling bins by hand and empty them into the truck or operate a crane to lift bins.
• Operate packer machinery on the vehicle to pack refuse.
• Direct the driver when pulling out in traffic and backing up the collection truck.
• Utilize tools, materials, equipment, and supplies associated with the area of assignment.
• Assist landfill customers in proper dumping areas and sort recyclables.
• Distribute informational pamphlets to departments, customers, and the public.
• Assemble and distribute waste/recycling containers.
• Clean windblown trash from roadsides and within a two-mile radius of the public landfill.
• Clean vehicle interiors and exteriors.
• Collect and lift dead animals for disposal purposes.
• Read maps and plan routes throughout the City.
• Identify and perform basic service and repair work.
• Prepare and present daily documentation logs, work orders, and reports as assigned.
• Work in crews or independently as assigned.
