About The Position

The Solid Waste Outreach Coordinator leads education and outreach efforts for the Solid Waste Department, engaging with residents, businesses, and volunteers to promote recycling, litter prevention, and other waste reduction initiatives. You will coordinate education events and the Keep Sarasota County Beautiful (KSCB) program, collaborating with partners such as UF/IFAS Extension and Sustainability to drive meaningful change in Sarasota County. This position offers a dynamic and rewarding opportunity for those that enjoy community engagement and stewardship.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university AND three (3) years of job-related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in an accredited college or university in related field AND one (1) year of job-related experience.
  • Five (5) years of professional-related experience can be substituted for the degree at management's discretion.
  • A valid Florida Driver's License at the time of hire.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and presents solid waste information at public education events.
  • Supports digital and print content development.
  • Maintains ongoing education through training and collaboration.
  • Facilitates waste audits and makes recommendations for local businesses.
  • Increases knowledge of waste reduction/recycling programs and resources available with local businesses.
  • Manages the KSCB program, including budgeting, grant oversight, procurement, and major cleanup events.
  • Coordinates volunteer efforts for the KSCB program.
  • Oversees application processing, safety training, supply distribution, and data tracking for the Adopt-a-Road Program.
  • Prepares reports for Keep America Beautiful (KAB), National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), and internal dashboards.
  • Ensures compliance with Sarasota County’s mandatory recycling program.
