About The Position

The Solid Waste Manager is responsible for the daily administration, management, planning, coordinating, and control of the Solid Waste Division. This role ensures essential services are provided, maintains public infrastructure, and promotes public safety, health, and welfare.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises the work of the Solid Waste Collections Foreman, Landfill Foreman, and other Solid Waste staff.
  • Provides leadership and management to all assigned staff, auditing and inspecting work to ensure adherence to regulations.
  • Aids in the implementation of goals and objectives for department and division operations.
  • Interviews and selects new employees, provides training, coaching, counseling, and mentoring.
  • Assigns tasks, reviews work, prepares performance evaluations, and performs disciplinary actions.
  • Acts as the point of contact for commercial haulers, providing excellent customer service.
  • Manages fleet over all heavy equipment, ensuring timely servicing with minimal impact to daily flow.
  • Maintains accurate records of repair and maintenance, scheduling external repairs as needed.
  • Assists in the research, recommendation, development, and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Develops work plans and strategies to meet Division needs.
  • Assists in the development of the annual department budget and monitors it throughout the year.
  • Keeps records of all related invoices for approval.
  • Ensures all activities are carried out safely and adheres to City safety regulations.
  • Reports all accidents and follows policies for reporting and investigating incidents.
  • Assists in the preparation of requests for purchase of services, materials, and supplies.
  • Aids in developing bids, contracts, and related reports.
  • Coordinates efforts with other City departments for construction and repair projects.
  • Reviews facilities costs and progress of work projects to identify potential problems.
  • Conducts special research projects and prepares comprehensive reports.
  • Represents the Division on external matters and responds to public concerns.
  • Responds to after-hours emergency requests.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $70,179.20 - $79,040.00 annually, D.O.E.
