About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Solid Waste Driver I to join our team. This driving position is essential to the collection of solid waste, trash, brush, and recyclable materials within the community. The Solid Waste Driver I will operate solid waste collection vehicles safely and efficiently in tight, confined areas, often around other vehicles and pedestrians. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and customer service, contributing to a cleaner, safer community while supporting the development of new team members.

Requirements

  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) required.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • One year experience in the operation of commercial vehicles requiring a Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B.
  • Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience operating solid waste or similar heavy-duty vehicles preferred.
  • Basic computer and/or tablet skills for effective operation and troubleshooting of routing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate solid waste collection vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure timely and proper collection of designated materials.
  • Work closely under the direction of a Supervisor to carry out daily routes and assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the City's mission, vision, and values.
  • Manage assignments and priorities to ensure fulfillment of projects and responsibilities.
  • Follow safety precautions in the operation of the equipment.
  • Perform routine housekeeping on the assigned piece of equipment.
  • Notify Supervisor of issues or concerns requiring attention.
  • Teach trainee drivers the proper operation of the solid waste vehicles.
