About The Position

Assigned to: Solid Waste Facility A typical day begins in the early morning with a thorough inspection of your assigned commercial front-load trash truck, followed by a quick sweep of the Truck Barn alongside your coworkers. You'll then head out to your first commercial customer and begin your collection route. If you enjoy working when the city is quiet, this early-morning schedule offers an excellent work environment. While most of the shift is performed independently, you'll collaborate with the team at the start and end of each day. This role is also a great opportunity to improve routing efficiency in partnership with your supervisor. Typical Work Hours: 2:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Incumbents are responsible for driving basic routes and the basic operation of a limited variety of refuse equipment for collecting and disposing of refuse and/or street sweepings; cleaning and maintaining assigned equipment. REPORTING STRUCTURE: Receives general supervision from the Solid Waste Collection Supervisor and higher level management staff. This position is driving essential (see driving requirements below).

Requirements

  • Ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possession of a valid Wyoming Class B Commercial Driver's License required.

Nice To Haves

  • Methods, materials, and equipment used in solid waste collection operations preferred.
  • Commercial vehicle operation and routine maintenance preferred.
  • Traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in truck and heavy equipment operations preferred.
  • Minimum one year of experience driving and operating a Class "B" Commercial Vehicle preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience driving/operating a variety of refuse equipment or equivalent truck driving operations, such as vendor delivery driver, school or transit bus driver, over-the-road truck drivers, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Drives basic routes and operates a limited variety of refuse collection vehicles to collect refuse and/or street sweepings within Casper City limits.
  • Delivers refuse and street sweepings to a balefill facility.
  • Collects and transports recycle commodities to the processor using recycle, roll-off, and solid waste collection vehicles.
  • Monitors compaction and load restrictions for collection vehicles and determines the appropriate time to return to the Solid Waste transfer station to empty contents at designated areas.
  • Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on assigned vehicle(s) and reports the need for major repairs; checks fluid levels; greases and lubricates parts as required; replaces filters; cleans and cares for tools and equipment.
  • Represents the City of Casper by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
