About The Position

The City of Olathe is seeking a dedicated Solid Waste Collection Operator to join the Commercial Trash Services team. This role focuses on servicing Commercial Roll-Off Containers and Bulk Collection, operating various vehicles and equipment to collect and transport waste. The position is essential for maintaining the health, sustainability, and economic vitality of the city, ensuring collected materials are properly disposed of, recycled, or composted.

Requirements

• Class B Kansas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air-brake endorsement required.
• Ability to work scheduled holiday and Saturday shifts.
• Capable of withstanding extreme and variable weather conditions.
• Must successfully pass pre-employment screenings, including physicals, drug tests, and background checks.

Nice To Haves

• One year of experience in assigned functional area is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Operate rear-load, side-load, front-load, roll-off, hook-lift, and bulk trucks, as well as other powered equipment for waste collection.
• Transport materials to disposal, recycling, or composting facilities.
• Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and inspections of vehicles and equipment.
• Complete daily reports and documentation accurately.
• Respond to customer service inquiries and resolve issues courteously.
• Support the department's safety initiatives by following safe work practices.
