About The Position

Torch Technologies is seeking an entry-level Solid Mechanics Engineer to join a team dedicated to advancing national defense capabilities. In this role, you will support the Department of War’s (DoW) science and technology community by creating innovative solutions for complex analytical challenges, developing next-generation computational models to predict weapon and material performance, providing critical technical insights that guide advanced research, and working within a collaborative environment to help achieve digital transformation goals. This position supports the Air Force Research Laboratory’s (AFRL) Air Warfare Directorate at Eglin Air Force Base, FL.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Candidate must possess a Master of Science (MS) degree in Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • General understanding of strength of materials, material science, and structural dynamics.
  • Strong desire and ability to work in a team environment and ability to be self-motivated.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Desire and motivation to expand areas of expertise and contribute in diverse areas of technical interest.
  • Position requires candidate to acquire a secret level security clearance. Inability to maintain a security clearance will result in candidate being ineligible for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with computer aided design (CAD) tools such as Solidworks.
  • Experience with computer programming languages such as Python or Matlab.
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA).

Responsibilities

  • Performing modeling and simulation (M&S) analysis to assess performance and survivability of warhead designs through the application of high fidelity, physics-based continuum mechanics codes.
  • Performing M&S analysis of material characterization tests for the purpose of developing and validating constitutive models for high fidelity, physics-based continuum mechanics codes.
  • Working alongside the DoW science and technology (S&T) community to translate complex, manual analysis processes into automated, multi-physics simulation chains for a next-generation digital engineering platform.
  • Providing critical, hands-on user feedback on software developments to improve tool usability, identify bugs, and help shape the future of digital weapon design for the DoW.
  • Preparing written reports, presentations, performance work statements, and other technical documents summarizing your analysis and findings.
  • Providing advice and presenting your work in technical meetings and reviews with the broader S&T community.
