About The Position

As a Level 1 Solicitor, you will manage a varied criminal law practice and contribute to the delivery of justice. Your responsibilities will include: Reviewing and assessing briefs of evidence to determine sufficiency and appropriate charges Preparing written legal advice on matters including charge selection and evidentiary issues Instructing Counsel and Crown Prosecutors in hearings across Local, District, and Supreme Courts Negotiating pleas of guilty in appropriate cases to ensure efficient resolution of matters Conducting advocacy in Local Court proceedings, including mentions and bail applications Managing case files and deadlines to comply with strict court timetables and ODPP standards This recruitment will create a talent pool for ongoing and temporary vacancies over the next 18 months in both metropolitan and regional offices.

Requirements

  • Legal qualifications and admission (or eligibility for admission) as an Australian legal practitioner by 31 March 2026
  • Current NSW Practising Certificate prior to commencement
  • Foundational advocacy skills and a willingness to develop courtroom experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication to explain complex legal concepts clearly and persuasively
  • Sound judgment and analytical ability to assess evidence and make informed decisions
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to handle a high-volume caseload
  • Current driver’s licence if applying for regional roles
