About The Position

The Solar Apprentice plays a crucial role in supporting the operations and maintenance of utility-scale solar projects within the Westlands Solar Complex. This position involves assisting O&M Technicians with preventative and corrective maintenance, site inspections, and general groundskeeping duties, ensuring the efficient and safe operation of solar facilities.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school.
  • One year of industrial experience in operations and/or maintenance, with a specific focus on solar.
  • Keen attention to detail and commitment to following safety protocols.
  • Eagerness to acquire skills in the electrical trade.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and demonstrated proficiency in using basic hand tools.
  • Adaptability to changing situations and possess problem-solving skills.
  • General understanding of computer systems.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Photovoltaic Inverter Systems.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Hazard Awareness.
  • Familiarity with Hand and Power Tools.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine site tours to inspect equipment.
  • Effectively communicate equipment condition to plant personnel and suggest improvements.
  • Perform routine preventive and predictive maintenance on all systems and equipment, including electrical equipment inspections, module replacement, and tracker lubrication.
  • Support corrective maintenance under proper training or supervision.
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment such as tractors, mowers, and variable reach forklifts.
  • Utilize various hand and power tools effectively.
  • Maintain cleanliness standards, including weed abatement and panel washing.
  • Escort contractors on-site as needed.
  • Adhere to all site safety requirements and procedures.
  • Identify safety hazards and implement corrective actions when necessary.
