About The Position

This Opportunity WSP is currently seeking an experienced Soils Inspector Specialist to join our team in Los Angeles, C A. This position is imminent and qualified candidates are encouraged to apply immediately Your Impact Inspect and document project related construction activities for conformance to project plans The qualified candidate(s) will work at various client construction project sites in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas inspecting and assessing construction activities Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, structural plans, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, material sampling, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for field inspection activities. Under minimal supervision, use survey instruments, metering devices, and test equipment to perform basic inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, construction, materials, controls, resources, layout, alignment, and elevation to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and construction or operating permits. Provide routine technical assistance that accounts for the proper inspection, construction, and functioning of buildings, highways, roads, bridges, structures, infrastructure, equipment, and/or mechanical systems according to design standard specifications. Assist with verifying load calculations, change orders, interpretation of contract plans and specifications, recognizing basic construction, engineering, or survey problems and escalating any differences, errors, or technical problems for appropriate resolution. Attend pre-construction meetings and assist with answering questions from contractors and other attendees. Assist with calculating payments due to contractors for work completed. Assist with ensuring adequate levels of equipment and materials are assigned to projects, ensuring that material tests are performed, and materials meet required standards. Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications related to inspection findings using electronic systems, written/oral feedback, photographs, drawings, diagrams, illustrations, spreadsheets, and reports. Comply with client policies and procedures for inspection work under contract. Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, studies and surveys, and construction. Complete training on assigned tasks. Exhibit basic knowledge of current field inspection practices. Work collaboratively with other professionals, scientists, engineers, inspectors, project control, and technicians on assigned inspection phases, checks, and tasks. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 5+ of relevant post education experience in discipline with prior construction inspection experience
  • ICC licenses in concrete, structural steel welding, masonry, fireproofing and soils preferred.
  • Experience in inspection of concrete, structural steel, masonry, fireproofing, reinforcing steel, and soils.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Self-motivated with a proven record of accountability.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Must be able to read plans, specs and technical specifications.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to perform on your feet throughout the day including a lot of walking and potentially climbing ladders.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree in closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Essential professional licensure/certification.
  • ICC Soils Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and document project related construction activities for conformance to project plans
