About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting the SWCD staff with field work, including site inspections, easement and contract spot checks, and ditch buffer inspections. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Works closely with the Resource Specialist, Conservation Specialist, and Water Quality Technician to plan and map required site inspections and spot checks. Works closely with the Administrative Assistant and District Administrator to ensure the proper collection, recording, filing and reporting of information on easements, contracts, buffer strips, and projects. Conducts spot checks on easements, buffers, and soil health contracts, either with a member of SWCD staff or alone, and collect and transcribe the required information. Provides information to the public and directs inquiries to the appropriate SWCD or partner agency staff member. Posts easement signage. Assist with water quality project boundary staking. Perform well monitoring inspections. Performs all duties according to established safety procedures. Maintains an effective working relationship with all employees. WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT The position has reasonable and safe working conditions in general but requires the proper use of on-road and off-road driving safety. This position is subject to undesirable working conditions at times including weather extremes, dust, dirt, and farm chemicals. The individual may encounter moderate emotional strain or tension and will constantly be exposed to sitting, standing, moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds) and other environmental conditions normally present in both an office and an agricultural setting.

Requirements

  • EDUCATION A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED Working knowledge of State and Federal conservation programs and conservation farming methods.
  • Strong working knowledge of motor vehicle operation, side-by-side operation, and trailer use.
  • The ability to effectively and safely perform land inspections, including ability to walk long distances over rough terrain and the ability and willingness to approach and communicate with landowners.
  • The ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with others.
  • Working knowledge of computer mapping systems such as ArcGIS and ability to read maps and plat books.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
