Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/medtech As a Software Simulation Engineer, you will help architect and develop new software features for simulating our OTTAVA robotic surgery system. Our simulation "digital twin" infrastructure is vital for successful Ottava market delivery. It is used organization-wide for accelerating development and testing, quickly prototyping new robotic concepts for next-generation systems, and training surgeons as part of professional education. Your work will have an immediate impact on the development of our complex medical robot system! Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field AND 3+ years of proven post-academic experience developing software, OR a Master's degree.
  • Strong proficiency in developing modern C++ software for complex, distributed systems.
  • Proficiency in Linux, Python, and Git.
  • Proven experience working in all aspects of software development from concept through requirements, development, unit testing, system testing, release, and maintenance.
  • Strong technical leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively across teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in agile, collaborative environments and take technical ownership.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of robot kinematics, control, and 3D representations of spatial orientation.
  • Experience with simulation and emulation in complex hardware/software projects.
  • Experience developing real-time software in a medical or highly regulated environment.
  • Experience with CMake, Docker, Bash, Qt/QML, and networking concepts is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop quality C++ and occasional python simulation software.
  • Work across functions to understand, prioritize, and implement simulation use cases that accelerate product development, testing, and advanced innovation.
  • Collaborate with software, robotics & controls, hardware, clinical, systems, and test engineers to ensure our "digital twin" accurately represents surgical robot behavior.
  • Advocate for and assist the adoption of software simulation tools among teams that have not traditionally incorporated it into their workflow.
  • Actively participate in technical design discussions and code reviews.
