About The Position

As a Software Interaction Designer in the Veterinary Software organization, you will lead the ideation and design of the user experience for IDEXX products through the application of user-centered methodologies. They use their visual and interaction problem solving abilities to deliver world class veterinary products. They work in a cross-functional environment with business partners, usability engineers and development teams. This is a unique opportunity to help build the foundation for IDEXX’s reporting function—shaping how data is captured and leveraged across the organization. You’ll be part of a highly collaborative and dynamic team with direct impact on the company’s financial success. Our work helps clients—veterinary clinics and professionals—make smarter, data-driven decisions that improve care and drive growth. IDEXX is innovating in the animal health sector, introducing products and data capabilities that are standard in other life sciences but new to this space. Many of our customers’ processes are dated, and this role offers the chance to modernize how they operate. The upside is significant: you’ll help bring transformative solutions to market and unlock new value for IDEXX and its partners. This is a hybrid role that must be in office 2x per week in Westbrook, Maine.

Requirements

  • Expertise in B2C, particularly mobile.
  • Can handle dense data onboarding and can make simple experiences out of it.
  • AI interface experience is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of designing and implementing scalable data models, schemas, and data pipelines.
  • Experience in quantitative analysis, problem solving, and data visualization.
  • Experience with Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, or similar frameworks.
  • Proficiency in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Expertise in cloud-based data platforms (Snowflake).
  • Expertise in relational (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) databases.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, and best practices for data security and quality.
  • Experience with principles and practices related to cloud technologies.
  • Experience in SaaS environment.
  • Experience in systems and/or software design.
  • Experience with Agile processes including Scrum, Kanban, and/or others.
  • 7+ years of experience working with big data and analytics.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Designs user interfaces for Company software, hardware and web products to meet customer needs and deliver optimum user experience.
  • Leads interface idea generation, design and prototyping and works with project staff throughout development and testing phases to complete projects.
  • Coordinates with product management, development, quality assurance, visual design and usability engineers to understand product requirements and identify solutions to user interface challenges.
  • Develops creative responses to UX issues that arise during development and testing.
  • Builds prototypes and simulations of user interfaces.
  • Produces wireframes, flow diagrams, specifications and other design related documentation.
  • Participates in user research and observes usability tests which are organized and facilitated by usability engineers.
  • Extends and maintains pattern libraries, and other standards resources, to document common approach to Company user interface design.
  • Builds interface design discipline as a component of the product development process.
  • Advocates for user-centered design process and contributes to overall user experience of Company products.
