You not only optimize your own code but make sure Engineers are able to optimize theirs. As a Software Engineering Manager you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. Teams work all across the company, in areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design; the list goes on and is growing every day. Operating with scale and speed, our exceptional software engineers are just getting started -- and as a manager, you guide the way. With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally. As an Engineering Manager for Google Home Platform Cloud Provider Integrations, you will lead a team responsible for the life-cycle of how first-party (1P) and third-party (3P) device providers connect their devices and report to the Google Home Platform. Your team will own the cloud services and APIs that manage device synchronization, real-time state management, and command execution routing. You will drive the strategy and execution for enhancing our provider APIs, improving data quality, reliability, and scale. You will collaborate with various Google Home Platform (GHP) teams, and partner engineering teams. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
Experience with API design.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
Experience with technical strategy setting, road map planning, stakeholder management
Experience working with clients and maintaining a user-centric approach to problem-solving.
Experience mentoring and growing individual contributors and tech leads.

Responsibilities

Manage systems handling device lifecycle, data ingestion, cloud-based device control paths, and intelligent routing mechanisms.
Set the technical direction, drive engineering excellence, and grow a team.
Work at the intersection of cloud services, device ecosystems, and smart home technologies.
Collaborate across time zones with engineering stakeholders.
Manage a team of 8-10 software engineers, optimizing our infrastructure to support traditional apps, voice assistants, and new LLM-based experiences.
