As a Software Engineering Manager you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. Teams work all across the company, in areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design; the list goes on and is growing every day. Operating with scale and speed, our exceptional software engineers are just getting started -- and as a manager, you guide the way. With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally. In this role you will lead Generative Media efforts in YouTube Shorts and our Creation Platform. You will have the opportunity to drive media generation serving infrastructure for YouTube. Our team is responsible for bringing the video generation and image generation models to YouTube Shorts Creators. We own and operate the Creation Platform, which serves media generation initiatives in YouTube Shorts, YouTube Studio, and YouTube Create. You will be at the forefront of Gen AI in YouTube, partner with applied ML teams, client teams, and product managers to deliver state of the art media generation models in YouTube. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 8 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • 3 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
  • Experience in large-scale system design.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building and scaling infrastructure, particularly in the areas of Generative AI and media processing (image/video).
  • Experience working on user-facing products, in the media creation or social media space.
  • Proven ability to drive technical strategy and roadmap for complex infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to grow in a fluid, ambiguous environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams (Product, UX, Research).

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the technical roadmap and strategy for Creation Infrastructure, aligning with product goals.
  • Oversee the architectural design and implementation of scalable and reliable back-end services for media generation.
  • Evaluate and guide the integration of new models and technologies, considering factors like latency, cost, and safety.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and engineering excellence.
  • Manage dependencies and collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product management, applied ML partners, and other engineering teams.
