About The Position

At WHOOP, we’re on a mission to unlock human performance and healthspan. WHOOP empowers members to perform at a higher level through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives. Our wearable technology monitors vital physiological metrics to offer personalized insights that enhance fitness, health, and recovery. WHOOP is building an Ecosystem team to expand what WHOOP can do through third-party companies, app partners, and vendors. As an Engineering Manager III, you will jumpstart this team from the ground up—hiring and developing engineers while driving delivery of the core integration platform, partner-facing APIs, and operational processes that enable high-quality integrations at scale.

Requirements

  • Experience managing and growing software engineering teams, including hiring, mentorship, and performance management
  • Strong technical background building and operating backend systems in production, with meaningful experience delivering integrations with external partners and/or third-party services (for example partner-facing APIs, webhooks, and data ingestion/export)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through technical planning and execution in ambiguous environments, delivering iteratively while maintaining quality and reliability
  • Experience working effectively across functions and with external partners, aligning stakeholders on scope, priorities, and measurable outcomes
  • Familiarity with distributed systems and cloud infrastructure, including service ownership and production monitoring (for example Amazon Web Services (AWS))
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building developer platforms or integration programs (for example partner enablement, documentation, sandbox environments, or internal developer tooling)

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead the Ecosystem engineering team, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management, while fostering a culture of collaboration, psychological safety, and continuous improvement
  • Lead technical planning and delivery across multiple workstreams, including defining milestones, sequencing work, identifying dependencies and risks, and communicating tradeoffs and timelines to stakeholders
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Data Science, Security, and Legal/Privacy partners, as well as third-party companies, app partners, and vendors, to define requirements and deliver high-quality integration experiences
  • Establish the technical strategy and architecture for ecosystem services and integration patterns (for example partner onboarding, authentication and authorization, webhooks, data ingestion/export pipelines, and event-driven workflows)
  • Ensure operational excellence for ecosystem services, including reliability, observability, incident response, and on-call readiness
  • Drive engineering standards and best practices for software development, testing, documentation, and secure-by-default API design
