About The Position

At Standard Bots, we're revolutionizing real-world automation by making robotic systems accessible to everyone. Our AI-powered platform enables robots to tackle unprecedented challenges through an intuitive instruction interface, bringing the power of software automation to physical spaces. We’re seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the engineers in our Core Platform team, ensuring they deliver on business goals while building scalable, high-quality systems that delight our customers. You’ll be responsible for holding engineers accountable, fostering a culture of technical excellence, and growing their skills. The role requires balancing business priorities with architectural integrity, avoiding short-term hacks, and ensuring investments align with long-term goals. You will not be expected to ship code yourself but will guide the team to success through strong management and cross-functional collaboration. This role will be remote but candidates should reside in either San Francisco, Seattle or NYC to allow for team collaboration when needed. In the future, this role may possibly become hybrid in one of the aforementioned cities.

Requirements

  • Have 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years managing engineering teams.
  • Have a proven track record of leading teams to deliver reliable, high-quality software systems in a fast-paced environment.
  • Are skilled in system design and architecture, with experience guiding teams to balance short-term needs with long-term scalability.
  • Have strong people management skills, with experience mentoring engineers and fostering career growth.
  • Excel at cross-functional collaboration, aligning diverse teams to achieve shared goals.
  • Are comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving execution in a high-stakes, outcome-driven environment.
  • Have experience with metrics-driven development, such as building dashboards or tracking KPIs like first-pass yield or bug resolution SLAs.

Nice To Haves

  • Are familiar with robotics or hardware/software integration (preferred but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor a team of software engineers to achieve business outcomes.
  • Ensure the team delivers on the team’s goals
  • Guide the team to build robust architectures while avoiding premature over-investments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Hardware, Marketing, Design, Production) to align on priorities and unblock hurdles.
  • Foster engineer growth through coaching, feedback, and tailored development plans.
