About the position
The Software Engineering Manager for Container and Virtualisation Infrastructure at Canonical is responsible for leading a remote team of engineers focused on building a next-generation private cloud infrastructure. This role combines technical leadership with team development, ensuring high-quality software delivery while fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment. The manager will engage with various stakeholders, advocate for modern software practices, and participate in the engineering process through reviews and strategic planning.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of remote engineers
- Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development
- Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
- Advocate and advance modern software development practices
- Participate in the engineering process through code and architectural review
- Engage with teams at Canonical, the open source community, and partners
- Work from home with global travel for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events
Requirements
- Experience leading successful, collaborative engineering teams
- Deep knowledge of Linux and modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and K8s
- Strong track record of developing and growing people
- Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or similar degree
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills
- Experience programming in C and/or Go
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with microservice architectures
- Familiarity with KVM, Ceph, and SDN technologies
