As a Software Engineering Manager of the CloudNet team in the APX platform engineering organization, you are passionate about delivering solutions to the real-time problems our mission-critical cloud native services encounter. You are also obsessed about achieving the high quality and reliability our customers demand. You will work closely with sovereign operations teams that operate Axon systems around the world, and your technical influence will extend to the entire engineering organization because every team needs guidance situating their product in the larger networking reality of the overall Axon ecosystem. You lead a team of networking software engineers that are experts in building complex and maintaining the complex and impactful foundational networking layer. You like keeping your hands in the code to keep your technical skills sharp. You enjoy mentoring and growing junior and mid-level engineers on a productive and fulfilling career path at Axon.

Responsibilities

  • Driving the execution of your team by leading planning, prioritization, stand-ups, and team retro meetings
  • Leading the technical direction of the team through architectural discussions and code reviews
  • Working with technical program managers, senior engineers, and client teams to deliver on the foundational networking aspects of company programs that cut across all product organizations
  • Join forces with recruiting to hire a top-notch engineering team
  • Managing engineers and their careers with 1:1s and performance reviews
  • Execute and deliver new features and improvements to internal customers on a regular basis
  • Coaching your team for continuous improvements
  • Lead Axon’s journey into Istio service mesh applications
  • Automate routine maintenance of the cloud platform with minimal downtime
  • Advance new features while simultaneously stewarding existing system components subject to strict regulatory regimes
  • CDN and DDOS strategy for the public edge
  • Ingress performance, at the public edge and also at the entrypoint to Kubernetes clusters
  • Performant and highly available VPNs between cross-cloud architectures

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or an equivalent highly technical field
  • 4+ years of experience in software or infrastructure engineering
  • 3+ years of experience managing software engineers
  • A track record of planning and delivering on multiple overlapping projects spanning several months
  • Experience implementing an engineering process that emphasizes security, availability, scalability, and operational discipline
  • Experience either directly managing networking concerns or a demonstrated interest in networking concerns
