About The Position

Crunchyroll is an international business focused on creating both online and offline experiences for fans through content, merchandise, events, gaming, news, and more. You will manage a team of engineers that are pioneering tools and technologies to build outstanding user experiences across more than 10 platforms for multiple brands. You'll work closely with design, user-experience, and user-testing teams to deliver dynamic experiences. Video is at the core of our streaming service, and we partner with other content operations, video infrastructure, and client teams. We manage metadata and ensure it is available at scale to millions of our anime fans. This team also supports both external partners and company partners end-to-end, as content is ingested, organized, and distributed within our applications and to other parties. This position reports to the VP, Platform Engineering. This is a hybrid position and requires you to be onsite at our LA office 3 days a week.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in building cloud-native applications, focusing on backend development and microservice architecture.
  • 4+ years of experience as team lead or manager.
  • Experience in Typescript/Node.js or Golang; Java, Scala, or Kotlin is a plus.
  • Experience with databases, including DynamoDB, ElasticSearch, MySQL, or PostgresDB.
  • Extensive experience with AWS, developing scalable, reliable, and secure cloud-native applications.
  • Experience in CI/CD and SDLC processes, specifically with GitHub Actions, IaC (Pulumi), and serverless architectures.
  • Experience in operational excellence, including on-call rotations and incident management.
  • Experience in writing and evaluating clean, functional, high-quality, and testable code.
  • Thrive in Agile and collaborative environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Search domain.
  • Familiarity with video or content management systems.
  • Active participation in one or more open source projects.
  • Experience with implementing and operating systems using event-driven architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of engineers to build user experiences across multiple platforms.
  • Collaborate with design, user-experience, and user-testing teams.
  • Partner with content operations, video infrastructure, and client teams.
  • Manage metadata for content ingestion, organization, and distribution.
  • Coordinate with multiple teams and manage dependencies.
  • Provide accurate project estimations considering team capacity and risks.
  • Work with team lead to develop a comprehensive testing pyramid.
  • Evaluate and plan team structure, making resourcing and hiring decisions.
  • Support and improve internal processes.
