About The Position

We are seeking a Software Engineer to join the Employee Self Service Platform Extensibility team. This team is at the forefront of enabling AI-powered self-service experiences across HR, IT, Facilities, and other enterprise domains. You will drive the development of extensibility features that empower AI agents to deliver seamless, personalized, and actionable employee support through Microsoft Copilot Studio and BizChat. What we do The Employee Self-Service (ESS) product is an emerging and cornerstone initiative within Microsoft’s Copilot ecosystem, designed to streamline and personalize employee interactions across HR, IT, and facilities domains. ESS empowers customers to quickly create conversational AI agents that integrates with enterprise systems to deliver accurate, context-aware responses and automate routine tasks. Our Team We are a geo-distributed team of engineers in Redmond WA and India, with deep development partnerships with the Microsoft Copilot Studio team, Microsoft AI team and Bizchat team. We partner closely with a talented and senior set of Product Managers, Technical Program Managers, designers, and researchers. We’re a new and emerging product. Both the competition and technology are evolving rapidly, and we’re looking for individuals that current on AI technologies, thrive in ambiguity, learns quickly, curious, and capable of solving problems across multiple code stacks. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 1+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated interest in/experience with AI/ML technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and partners across product teams, develop and support key extensibility features in Microsoft AI products – Microsoft Copilot Studio and Bizchat.
  • Collaborates with internal and customer HR, IT, and Facilities stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Designs and implements extensibility features that allow AI agents to interact with enterprise systems (e.g., HRIS, ITSM, Facilities platforms).
  • Learns to review and break down work items into tasks with stakeholder collaboration, provide estimations, and escalate delays, while also supporting feature deployments to customers, considering user and service impacts, and adhering to best deployment practices for safety.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to define feature requirements, integrates feedback to enhance design, and establishes feedback loops for continuous improvement based on customer metrics.
  • Evaluates AI technologies (such as LLMs, SLMs, embeddings) and architectures (such as orchestration patterns, RAG, etc) when developing solutions. Specifies or implements AI platform improvements like fine-tuning or training custom ML models.
  • Learns and applies coding standards and best practices through code reviews, developing maintainable and extensible code with guidance. Utilizes debugging tools to proactively and reactively address issues in product features, ensuring code quality and reliability.
  • Ensures compliance with security, privacy, safety, and accessibility standards, leverages developer tools for code creation and debugging, contributes to automation in production and deployment, and proactively seeks knowledge to improve product availability, reliability, efficiency, and performance at scale.
  • Understands and applies Microsoft’s responsible AI practices to ensure systems meet our commitments to our customers.
