The Software Engineer is responsible for supporting and enhancing a high volume, cloud native claims platform built on Azure, Kubernetes, and Kafka. This role focuses on building reliable, secure, and scalable systems through solid CI/CD automation, infrastructure as code, and modern observability practices. The engineer manages cloud infrastructure, certificates, and secrets, implements monitoring and performance visibility, and develops runbooks and disaster recovery procedures to ensure system resiliency. Partnering closely with Java engineering teams, the role drives production readiness, incident resolution, root cause analysis, and continuous improvements to application reliability and operational excellence. You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week. Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Java engineering background (Maven/Gradle, Spring Boot, REST APIs)
  • 3+ years of experience in Phython
  • 3+ years of experience with hands on experience with Azure cloud services (storage, networking, failover groups, resiliency patterns)
  • Experience with Kafka (topics, partitions, ACLs, schema registry)
  • Proven advanced working knowledge of Kubernetes (AKS) including workloads, probes, scaling, logging, and security
  • Demonstrated solid CI/CD expertise—GitHub Actions or Jenkins—for automated builds, tests, scanning, and deployments
  • Experience with infrastructure as Code (Terraform), containerization (Docker), Helm charts
  • Experience with observability tools: Prometheus/Grafana, Splunk, etc.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with SonarQube, and quality gating practices

Responsibilities

  • Support high volume claims platform across Azure, Kubernetes, and Kafka
  • Builds and maintains CI/CD pipelines, automates deployments, and enforces security scans and rollback safety
  • Manages Terraform based infrastructure, certificates, and secrets
  • Implements observability using Prometheus, Grafana, and Splunk for system health and performance
  • Creates resilient runbooks, DR procedures, and reliability improvement
  • Collaborates with Java engineers to ensure production ready services and operational excellence
  • Drives incident resolution, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement across the application ecosystem
