About The Position

We’re looking for a Roku Software Engineer to join a team of Roku developers, working with product, design, PMs, and producers to build consumer‑facing Roku experiences and device‑specific data feeds. This role uses BrightScript and SceneGraph to develop, enhance, and maintain Roku apps, while collaborating in an Agile environment and communicating proactively.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of Roku development experience
  • Proficient programming/scripting skills
  • Proficiency with BrightScript and SceneGraphThread optimization (task vs render thread)
  • Roku UI components: rowList, markupList, markupGrid
  • Custom components/controls
  • Roku Video Node and streaming debugging
  • Proficient Roku debugging skills
  • Experience with Charles Proxy or similar
  • Experience giving/receiving code reviews
  • Git/GitHub workflows (including runners)
  • Knowledge with Roku certification checklist/process
  • Knowledge with Jira and Confluence

Nice To Haves

  • OTT/Smart TV development experience
  • Chromecast development experience
  • Test-Driven Development experience
  • CI tools like Jenkins
  • Hackathon participation
  • Open-source contributions

Responsibilities

  • Develop Roku apps using BrightScript and SceneGraph
  • Optimize app performance within Roku platform limitations
  • Collaborate with developers, testers, PMs, designers in Agile
  • Work with platform API teams to extend functionality
  • Estimate tasks and communicate progress
  • Deliver work on schedule
  • Stay flexible and willing to learn
