About The Position

Mission Technologies is seeking a motivated Engineer Software to join our team supporting the Joint Training Synthetic Environment (JTSE) program. In this role, you will help improve and sustain complex training and simulation software used by the Joint Staff J7. You will work in a collaborative environment focused on modernizing systems, reducing technical debt, and delivering high quality software solutions.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; 0 years of experience with a Master’s degree in a related field; or a High School Diploma/equivalent and 6 years of relevant experience
  • Must have an active Secret Security Clearance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Self motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Experience developing in a Linux environment
  • Proficiency with Agile methodologies and frameworks
  • Experience using Confluence, Jira, and Git
  • Proficiency in Java and JavaScript
  • Experience with Node.js and React.js
  • Working knowledge of C++/C# in Visual Studio
  • Strong debugging and problem solving skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge with distributed systems and system architecture
  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience working with relational and NoSQL/graph databases preferred
  • Familiar with developing and maintaining Helm charts
  • Background in performance optimization
  • Experience leading technical improvement or modernization efforts

Responsibilities

  • Identify, assess, and prioritize technical debt across the codebase
  • Refactor legacy and high‑complexity code to improve maintainability and performance
  • Reduce code duplication and promote modular, reusable components
  • Expand, enhance, and stabilize automated testing (unit, integration, and regression)
  • Upgrade outdated libraries, frameworks, and system dependencies
  • Address security vulnerabilities and replace deprecated components
  • Improve the reliability and efficiency of CI/CD pipelines
  • Enhance system logging, monitoring, and error‑handling capabilities
  • Develop, update, and maintain technical documentation and coding standards
  • Collaborate with feature teams to plan and execute system improvement initiatives
  • Conduct research and support system architecture, design, and development activities
  • Analyze user needs and system requirements to address technical challenges
  • Write high‑quality, standards‑compliant code following best practices
  • Test software, document results, and resolve identified issues
  • Support development, maintenance, and updates for virtual environment training courses
