KBR's National Security Solutions team provides high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to our customers in the intelligence and national security communities. In this position, your work will have a profound impact on the country's most critical role - protecting our national security. KBR is searching for a Software Engineer in Alexandria, VA at the Mark Center to provide direct engineering support to the official Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E) and Engineering Prototyping and Experimentation Mission Directorate. The position is primarily telework (currently) going into the office on a case-by-case basis, approximately 3-5 times a month.

  • Assess user and system requirements and recommend the best overall system architecture.
  • Assist in the design of the overall system and formulate system specifications in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Work with the site software engineering team to ensure that user requirements and specifications are met in the design of software systems.
  • Design, code, install, and maintain systems.
  • Establish test requirements, plans, and execute testing to verify system design and performance.
  • Ensure system maintenance and maintain adequate software systems documentation.
  • Prepare software system architectures and models to specify in detail operations to be performed by computer software.
  • Provide support for presentation, briefing, chart, and other office documentation.
  • Continually assess the performance of software engineer teams, using an agile approach.
  • 15 years' of progressively responsible Software Engineering experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of database technology (e.g. SQL, No SQL, etc.).
  • Experience developing web applications using at least one popular web framework.
  • Experience with test-driven development.
  • Proficiency in software engineering tools.
  • Experience in/familiarity with DevOps or DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience in/familiarity with cloud native applications and microservices.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Database Design, Data Modeling, Schema Design, and SQL Database are 'Preferred'.
  • Erwin, No-SQL, Graph Databases, Neo4j, and Database Optimization are 'Nice to Have'.
  • RESTful API, API Development, and Swagger are 'Core'.
  • OpenAPI, API Integration, and Postman are 'Preferred'.
  • FastAPI, SDK Development, and GraphQL are 'Nice to Have'.
  • Java, Flask, Jinja2, Full Stack, and Backend Development are 'Preferred'.
  • Web Frameworks, Frontend Development, React, Angular, Express, and Node.js are 'Nice to Have'.
  • Data Science and Data Pipelines are 'Preferred'.
  • Machine Learning, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Scikit-Learn are 'Nice to Have'.
  • Scripting & Automation, Agile and DevOps Practices to include Cybersecurity and Cloud Computing are 'Preferred'.
