THE WORK The Lockheed Martin Space Mission Processing team is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Software Engineer, Stf to join our development team in Littleton, CO. As a Software Engineer, you will lead a team of developers to design, develop, test, and deploy a novel satellite payload simulator, driving a new generation of satellite mission processing capabilities.   • Leading a team of software engineers, coordinating with other subsystem team and program leadership, splitting time between technical and leadership tasks
  • Planning, conducting, and coordinating software development activities for a system performing complex calculations including orbital projection and satellite payload behavior and performance
  • Engaging with Systems Engineering organization to decompose and allocate requirements, perform verification and validation, and support system integration
  • Applying the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development life cycle. This will include facilitating an Agile workflow, providing data in support of Earned Value Management-style (EVM) cost accounting, and supporting major program milestone events (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR) from initial design through final delivery of a product
  • Applying knowledge of computer hardware and software, mission planning systems, information processing techniques used, and information gathered from system users to develop software
  • Correcting program errors, preparing operating instructions, compiling documentation of program development, and analyzing system capabilities, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls
  • 5+ years of related experience working on software development projects
  • Ability to interact with peer-developers to facilitate interoperability with other subsystems
  • Demonstrated understanding of software design practices
  • Experience with computationally complex problems
  • Experience with Microsoft software products
  • Active Top Secret Clearance required for consideration
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or similar technical discipline. Equivalent industry-related experience is acceptable
  • Experience with writing software for computationally complex problems
  • Demonstrated understanding of software design with a focus on either web-client user interfaces or back-end high throughput calculations
  • Understanding of and comfort developing software in C++
  • Experience using scripting languages such as Python or Matlab
  • Experience developing software/hardware interfaces including integration with third-party API’s
  • Experience with RF link budget analysis
  • Experience with satellite RF communications techniques
  • Knowledge of orbital physics, particularly LEO systems
  • Experience with radar systems analysis
  • Experience with STK, AFSIM, MPAT, or similar satellite propagation modeling software tools
  • Experience with managing a budget for a project or team
  • Experience with C++, Python, or other similar high-level languages
