About The Position

The Boeing Company is looking for a Lead Software Engineer - Developer to join the Virtual Warfare Center (VWC) team located in Berkeley, Missouri. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization. This position requires knowledge of all VWC tools to include those developed in house as well as those integrated into the environment. A deep understanding of real-time modeling and simulation, Distributive Interactive Simulation (DIS) standards, and other communication protocols is needed. This position will ensure the VWC unclass and collateral secret development is not in conflict with the development in the proprietary spaces as well as coordinate the technical operations of all software development activities in concert with the VWC Chief Architect. This lead will be responsible to support configuration management when discrepancies are presented, ensure VWC websites and other ESATS applications remain compliant, lead the bi-weekly VWC technical council to ensure all entities are aware of technical updates (patches, OS upgrades) or changes and provide any help needed. The selected candidate must work closely with the DSO team, Cyber Security, and Management to ensure efficient CI/CD pipelines. The selected candidate will track Technical Debt and provide solutions to remove. This lead will also develop tailored capabilities for AFSIM and the Virtual Interactive Simulation Environment (VISE) as well as help debug and detect anomalies in proprietary program spaces. The selected individual will also help onboard and mentor early-career or new employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline experience or 22 years’ related relevant work experience
  • 10 years of experience in C++ and Python
  • 10 years of experience in both Linux and Windows Operating Systems
  • 10 years of experience in leading software projects or technical teams
  • 10 years of experience in Real-Time Modeling and Simulation
  • This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
  • This position must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

  • Knowledge of domains, characteristics, constraints and products that require software and influence architecture, requirements, interfaces, designs, and integration/test approaches. Domain examples include data processing, ground support, tools and analysis models. Examples of characteristics and constraints that impact software include operating systems, fidelity and information processing capacity. Examples of products include aircraft, missiles, airborne/shipboard/space systems/ground-based support systems.
  • Knowledge of implementation, validation, and verification processes, practices, and guidelines to ensure software development quality, performance, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the design, development, test, and maintenance of non-embedded software throughout the end-to-end lifecycle that meets industry, customer, safety, and regulation standards.
  • Oversees the review, analysis, and translation of customer requirements into initial design of software products.
  • Reviews the development, maintenance, enhancement and optimization of software products and functionalities for systems integrations.
  • Oversees development, documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software products.
  • Oversees debugging and resolution of issues identified to ensure the reliability and efficiency of software products.
  • Oversees handling of user inquiries, troubleshooting technical issues and user feedback analysis.
  • Oversees research and implementation of current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks and changes in regulations relevant to software development.
  • Leads development, establishment, monitoring and improvement of software processes, tools and key performance metrics that align projects with organizational goals and industry benchmarks.
  • Reviews planning, execution and documentation of software research and development projects.
  • Consults on software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations.
  • Oversees software project management activities and software supplier management functions.
  • Oversees tracking and evaluation of software team and supplier performance to ensure product and process compliance to project plans and industry standard
