Software Engineer - Product R/D - IV
About The Position
The Software Engineer - Product R/D - IV role involves contributing to the development of data and AI-enabled internal products for a venture capital firm. The focus is on creating next-generation capabilities, such as AI-assisted sourcing, diligence, enrichment, search/retrieval, and internal research tools. These solutions will be built on an AWS/Python stack and integrated with platforms like Slack, Retool, and Salesforce CRM. The role requires working within enterprise engineering and security guidelines.
Requirements
- 4-7+ years in software/data/platform engineering delivering production workloads.
- Strong Python skills for data processing, API integrations, automation, and packaging.
- Demonstrable experience with AWS for data/app workloads (S3, Lambda, IAM, scheduling/eventing, Secrets Manager).
- Hands-on delivery of AI-/LLM-backed features or workflows, such as RAG, semantic search, text classification, or automated summarization.
- Experience building internal tools in Retool or equivalent low-code/internal-app environments.
- Solid SQL skills and ability to work within an existing transformation layer (dbt or similar).
- Ability to engage directly with business users, clarify requirements, and report progress.
Nice To Haves
- Experience integrating with Slack and Salesforce APIs
- Familiarity with vector databases/search technologies
- Experience in venture capital/private equity settings.
Responsibilities
- Design and build AI-assisted workflows for investment, diligence, and portfolio monitoring.
- Integrate with major LLM providers and retrieval/vector services; establish patterns for prompt design, evaluation, and monitoring.
- Develop Python-based ingestion and transformation jobs on AWS (S3, Lambda, ECS, Aurora Postgres).
- Prepare and serve data in formats suitable for AI/LLM workloads (embeddings, indexes, features).
- Build and maintain Retool applications to support investment and platform operations.
- Ensure applications meet standards for access control, logging, and performance.
- Align Salesforce with the central data store to ensure consistency of core entities.
- Document pipelines, services, and apps for handover to internal staff or future suppliers.
- Add monitoring, alerting, and simple CI/CD where proportionate.
