As a Software Engineer on the Kubernetes Platform Engineering team, you will help build, deploy, and operate large-scale Kubernetes clusters that power Visa's internal platform services. This role offers hands-on experience with Kubernetes internals, distributed systems, and platform tooling while contributing to the engineering of Visa's internal Kubernetes distribution. You will work closely with senior engineers and architects, gaining mentorship and exposure to infrastructure at scale.

  • Assist in building, enhancing, and managing Open-Source Kubernetes distributions for Visa's internal workloads.
  • Support the deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of Kubernetes clusters with a focus on reliability, scalability, and security.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of Kubernetes Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs) and operators.
  • Participate in troubleshooting Linux and container runtime issues related to Kubernetes environments.
  • Collaborate with architects and senior engineers during design, code reviews, and proof-of-concept initiatives.
  • Write clean, reliable, and maintainable code, spending the majority of your time in hands-on development.
  • Contribute to improving developer workflows, automation, and operational efficiency within the platform.
  • Learn and adopt best practices for modern DevOps models, Infrastructure as Code, and distributed system design.
  • Participate in team knowledge sharing and contribute to Visa's growing technology presence internally and externally.
  • Minimum of 6 months of work experience or a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of relevant work experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with one or more programming languages such as Golang, Python, Java, or C++.
  • Fundamental understanding of Kubernetes concepts (pods, deployments, services, CRDs).
  • Interest in automation, Infrastructure as Code, and platform engineering practices.
  • Experience with Linux systems, including troubleshooting, networking, and performance basics.
  • Exposure to service mesh, container network interface, and container storage interface preferred.
  • Basic understanding of generative AI concepts, including large language models (LLMs), prompt engineering, and the general capabilities and limitations of GenAI tools.
  • Coursework, projects, or certifications that demonstrate an interest in Kubernetes.
  • Experience contributing to open-source projects or community involvement a plus.
