About The Position

As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. The Android Context Engine (ACE) team's mission is to empower new experiences that elevate what Android can do for users. We're delivering a foundation for surfacing helpful information and suggestions to the user in a safe and secure way. This functionality is being built right into the Android platform and will serve as the cornerstone for experiences across the ecosystem. Team members have a real chance to shape how these features are built, from the core functions in the system to the user interface. The work offers an opportunity to build genuine knowledge, expertise, and impact working in Android, affecting over 3 billion users. The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $141,000-$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
2 years of experience programming in Java, Kotlin or C++.
2 years of experience with android application development.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
2 years of experience with performance, large-scale systems data analysis, visualization tools, or debugging.
2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms in either an academic or industry setting.
Experience developing accessible technologies.
Proficiency in code and system health, diagnosis and resolution, and software test engineering.

Responsibilities

Write product or system development code.
Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
