About The Position

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time. Our Content & Business Products (CBP) Engineering teams build the products and services to enable the entire workflow of content production, from pitch to play, and provide innovative new ways to develop and manage entertainment at scale. Within the Content & Business Products org, Localization Tech team focuses on scaling the reach of our content by localizing Netflix’s content to 35 languages for both dubbing and subtitles (and similar use cases such as closed captions etc). This team is responsible for building, operating and maintaining tools that allow linguists to author scripts that assist with localization workflows. A big part of our charter is to innovate on improving accessibility to our content via audio description or SDH assets.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • Proficient with gRPC, GraphQL, or RESTful API design and implementation.
  • Experience with media pipelines or relevant domain experience.
  • Recent proficient experience with Java, C#, or other OO programming languages.
  • Solid understanding of OO design principles, concurrency, multi-threading, performance tuning, and observability.
  • Proven track record in architecting, building, and operating distributed systems.
  • Solid experience in setting technical directions for engineering projects.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Craft resilient, high-scale, low-latency, distributed microservices in production environments.
  • Design and implement gRPC, GraphQL, or RESTful APIs.
  • Work with media pipelines or relevant domain experience.
  • Utilize Java, C#, or other OO programming languages with a solid understanding of OO design principles, concurrency, multi-threading, performance tuning, and observability.
  • Architect, build, and operate distributed systems with high availability, fault tolerance, and performance.
  • Set technical directions for engineering projects and make architectural decisions.
  • Influence partner and cross-functional teams.
  • Proactively describe complex technical concepts to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and lead incident reviews.
