For more information, visit www.grainger.com. We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join the Product Associations and Recommendations team. Our team is comprised of varying levels of experience and backgrounds. As a Software Engineer in one of our teams, you can expect to work with other Software Engineers, Architects and Analysts to develop products and deliver solutions in a cloud environment and working with Technical Product Managers by helping with the execution of product roadmaps and backlog priorities. You will report to an Engineering Manager. This position focuses on a rapidly growing area of Grainger, applying cutting-edge AI and machine learning methodologies to connect customers with products that meet their specific needs.

  • Write code in Kotlin, NodeJS, React, TypeScript, and Bash
  • Deploy working software to production early and often using containerized deployments, infrastructure as code, pipeline as code, and feature flagging techniques.
  • Design and implement distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
  • Use XP engineering practices like pair programming, TDD, refactoring, and more to ensure we’re writing high-quality software in a sustainable way.
  • Write automated tests using modern tools (e.g., kotest, junit, gatling, jest, pact).
  • Mentor junior engineers
  • Collaborate with your Tech Lead, Engineering Manager, Product Manager, and UX to make sure requirements are clear and we’re taking the best technical approaches.
  • Work in a collaborative team environment with a focus on continuous improvement and learning.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in computer science or a related field
  • 5+ years experience as a Software Engineer required
  • Experience deploying software to the public cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  • Proficient with Apache Kafka and Kafka Connect
  • Experience with React, Kotlin, Spring, Typescript, and Bash
  • Familiarity managing Kubernetes systems
