About The Position

One team. Global challenges. Infinite opportunities. At Viasat, we’re on a mission to deliver connections with the capacity to change the world. For more than 35 years, Viasat has helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate. We’re looking for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team. As a Software Engineer/Data Science Intern at Viasat, you will work on innovative projects using groundbreaking technologies like large language models, cloud development, and modern web frameworks. These tools help address complex problems. Build impactful product features end‑to‑end. You’ll contribute to a modern web application used broadly inside the company, with opportunities to touch backend services, front‑end UI, and CI/CD workflows. Practice disciplined engineering. You’ll develop within a collaborative environment that emphasizes clean code, code review, and automated pipelines—skills that translate directly to professional software roles. Ship with users, not just to them. You’ll engage power users, collect feedback via lightweight research (surveys/focus groups), and iterate quickly so features solve real problems. Day-to-day, you'll work closely with a small development team, frequently interacting with our internal customers to: Build & implement features in a modern web stack, collaborating on APIs, data models, and UI with an emphasis on clarity and maintainability. Collect and synthesize user feedback by helping to compose and conduct surveys and focus groups, analyzing responses, and sharing insights that advise feature improvements and prioritization. Develop, test, and refine code as part of an active development cycle—writing small, incremental changes, fixing bugs, improving existing functionality, and validating changes through local testing. Contribute to quality—participate in code reviews and ship via CI/CD, learning how changes move safely from development to production users. Internship Program Details: You will work onsite at a Viasat office location for the duration of your internship. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams. Housing and relocation assistance are available to interns pending eligibility. To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable.
